Rather than simply repeating an older top-10 list, this updated 2026 guide expands the list to 14 countries and uses the latest QS World University Rankings 2027, released on June 18, 2026, as the main reference point. The QS ranking evaluates universities using indicators covering areas such as academic reputation, research, employability, internationalisation and sustainability.
The ranking features 1,504 universities from around the world, making it one of the broadest current comparisons of global universities.

How We Selected These 14 Countries
There is no single official “best countries for universities” ranking because university rankings generally rank individual institutions rather than countries.
For this updated list, we use the QS World University Rankings 2027 as the main benchmark and consider countries with strong representation among the highest-ranked universities, alongside the broader reputation and strength of their higher-education systems. QS's 2027 ranking was published on 18 June 2026 and covers 1,504 institutions.
It is also important to remember that different ranking systems can produce different results because QS, Times Higher Education and other organizations use different methodologies.
